Budapest Pics

Alright Folks! Here's some fantastico pictures from Budapest. I took almost 300 pics, so obviously I couldn't post them all. As you can imagine, it was hard to narrow down which ones to post. BUT, the good news is, when I come back to the States or when you come visit me in Scotland (whichever comes first....hint, hint.....) you can see the remainder of my Budapest pics in all their glory. Enjoy!
These were all taken from the bridge....and I can't remember what it's called :o)

Saint Stephen's Basilica, the largest church in Budapest. It was seriously ornate on the inside.

This pic and the next few are of monument that the missionaries referred to as the "sand castle" because that's what it looks like from far away. A really big fancy sand castle. I think it was built in celebration of freedom from communist rule.

Another castle
Inside the castle This is a monument dedicated to the unknown people who preserved the written history of Hungary. Legend says that if you touch his pen you will gain brilliant writing skills. I'll let you know if it's true.
Me and my anonymous friend.
The man on this monument was the first Bishop to evangelize Hungary. Pagans nailed him into a barrel and left him on this spot to die.

Check out the bird
This Hungarian flag hangs as a symbol of freedom outside the parliment building. The circle cut of the middle is where the communist symbol used to be.

A coworker and I were commenting over some pictures in Ireland about how much we both wished the US would have more European architecture. Those buildings are beautiful.
